· Fair grading policy
· A promise to make the subject matter as interesting and fun as
possible, whenever possible.
· Treat you with the respect you deserve as young adults.
Tardies:
If you are tardy to class:
· Please enter the classroom quietly!
· If you have a pass or admit, place it on my desk.
· Unexcused tardiness will result in a consequence, such as a warning,
detention, phone call home, etc.
Absences:
“Take Home” Assignments:
· Home Learning assignments will be reviewed on the following class period from which they were assigned. Assignments that are incomplete will receive partial credit while assignments not done at all will receive a “Z”.
· A “Home Learning” Excuse Note is to be completed by the student giving a reason for the missed assignment. This note will be filed in your student portfolio. If the work is made up and accepted, the note will be changed to indicate the made-up assignment but will remain in your portfolio. Late work will be given partial credit at my discretion.
Behavior:
As in any family, everyone is expected to get along and “love and respect” each other. At Jorge Mas Canosa Middle, we want you to feel as if you are part of an extended family made up of your fellow students, teachers, administrators, custodians, cafeteria staff, coaches, etc. In order for this family to be successful, everyone must be willing to do “their” share in keeping the peace, beauty, and learning environment of our school.
We are proud to be Paladins!
Therefore, it is very important that you take your everyday actions seriously. Some behaviors such as those listed below are unacceptable while others are commendable.
These might include:
· If you or someone you know is not comfortable with a particular
situation, in or out of the classroom, please let me know. Not everyone
has a great day – everyday. In fact, very few people do.
· If you know something that shouldn’t be happening, whether it is
cheating, bullying, etc., also let me know. It can be an anonymous note
on my desk or five minutes after class.
· Be ready to take control and be responsible of your role in the “family”.
Inappropriate Behaviors
· Talking during a lesson or when others are speaking.
· Passing notes to other classmates.
· Sleeping during class.
· Lack of participation in group assignments.
· Chewing gum, eating or drinking during class.
· Using a cell phone in class or a student’s cell phone ringing during
class. (In the event this occurs, the phone will be confiscated and
taken to the office for a parent to pick up.)
· Grooming yourself in class.
· Getting out of your seat without permission.
· Touching another student or another student’s belongings.
· Using profanity in the classroom.
· Being disruptive when entering the classroom late.
· Teasing or laughing at other classmates.
· CHEATING! (This will result in an automatic zero on the assignment
and a consequence.)
Consequences
· First offense: Verbal Warning
· Second offense: Written Warning
· Third offense: Detention
· Fourth offense: Parent conference
· Fifth offense: Referral
PARENTS: PLEASE REVIEW MY RULES AND PROCEDURES, PRINT AND SIGN THE PARENT/ STUDENT AGREEMENT, AND SUBMIT TO TEACHER.

Absences:
- Always ASK me or a classmate what you missed!!!!
- “I was absent” is not an excuse to not know what is going on!
- Any worksheets completed during your absence will be placed in the appropriate folder on the “Make-up Work” bulletin board located in the classroom. Find the worksheet(s) with your name written on top and follow any additional directions that might be attached. This work must be completed as soon as possible, and will not be accepted later than one week after your absence.
- Make-up work must be turned in directly to me. Please do not leave these assignments on my desk or turn them in with any other assignments.
- It will be your responsibility to obtain your make-up work. If you do not request and obtain your work within two days of your absence, you will not be able to make up the assignment and will receive a zero for that activity.
- If you miss a test or quiz during an absence, you will need to make arrangements with me to schedule a time to take the missed exam. This might be before school, after school or during class, depending on the circumstances. Be sure to talk with me as soon as possible to schedule a time.
